Our Story

Leap for Joy Foundation was inspired by a passage in the Bible: when Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist, met Mary, mother of Jesus, her baby leaped with joy in the womb. For Founder Shené Bowie-Hussey, this image connected two passions: healthy pregnancies and joy-filled families. It became a symbol of happiness, peace, and new beginnings. As a human-centered, servant leader, Shené built the Leap for Joy Foundation on her belief that families and community providers deserve to feel supported, empowered, and cared for. The name reflects her vision that with the right support, families can leap toward health, stability, and joy.

Desired Impact

Leap for Joy Foundation is committed to strengthening families by offering health education, technical assistance, counseling, and resources that meet real community needs. Our approach is rooted in collaboration, with the belief that it takes many hands to build healthy communities. We are dedicated to serving families and equipping leaders to strengthen their communities. In addition to supporting families directly, we provide education for public health professionals and community providers, ensuring they are prepared to serve with compassion and effectiveness. By combining strategic planning with a focus on human-centered leadership, we empower pregnant youth, young parents, and families to thrive. Our desired impact is simple yet profound: families and providers who feel seen, supported, and equipped to create lasting change in their lives and communities.
